Short Courses

The short course is designed to equip learners to understand the process of negotiation; that is, how to prepare for negotiation, with clear aims and objectives and when to use different negotiating styles, strategies and tactics. Through the course, the learners gain confidence to be successful negotiators and resolvers of conflicts.

The course is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students who have little research skills; especially students who are pursuing their studies through distance mode at a tertiary institution on fulltime or part-time basis; and are expected to write a dissertation or thesis in partial fulfillment of their studies. The course will equip them with research skills applicable in a variety of disciplines. In addition, the course will also address the oral and written communication skills of the students to enable them to present research proposals and to write research reports.

This course is designed to assist participants to apply basic principles of professional communication in various professional contexts. The course will focus on organizational communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, professional oral communication and written communication in a business context, such as conducting interviews and meetings, including production of written professional and/or business documents.

This course will assist learners to develop skills required to write reader-focused and targeted reports both in the public, parastatal and private sector environment. Good report-writing skills are essential for entrepreneurs, managers, and employees in the workplace because they are a useful instrument in communicating necessary information to an appropriate audience within the same business or from one business to another.  They are necessary tools used to explain and/or justify expenses, events, accidents, policy changes, as well as documenting numerous other activities within an organisation.

This course is designed for people who do not have any Setswana background and are interested in learning Setswana language and culture to effectively communicate with others in their workplaces and informal settings. The course will also create awareness about the Setswana culture by exposing the participants on the course to a variety of activities that depict the Setswana culture.
